KANO — A Kano High Court has sentenced 2 men, Aliyu Hussaini and Amir Zakariyya, to decease by hanging for the execution of a lecturer with the state-owned Northwest University, Kano, Buhari Imam.
The convicts were recovered blameworthy connected a three-count complaint of conspiracy, equipped robbery, and culpable homicide.
Delivering judgment, the presiding judge, Justice Fatima Adamu, held that the prosecution had proven its lawsuit beyond tenable doubt.
“The enactment of the defendants shows full disregard for quality life.
I hereby condemnation the defendants to 5 years’ imprisonment each for conspiracy, 10 years’ imprisonment each for robbery without an enactment of fine, and decease by hanging for culpable homicide.
May God person mercy connected them,” Justice Adamu declared.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Barr. Lamido Sorondinki, told the tribunal that the convicts committed the offence connected June 11 astatine Sheka Sabuwar Abuja Quarters, Kano.
He said that astatine astir 3:30 a.m. connected the said date, the defendants conspired and equipped themselves with unsafe weapons, including agelong knives and machetes.
“In the process, the defendants robbed the victim, Buhari Imam, of his mobile telephone and caused his decease by stabbing him successful the stomach, thigh, and back,” Sorondinki stated.
The prosecution presented 3 witnesses and tendered aesculapian reports and photographs of the deceased arsenic exhibits.
However, the convicts denied committing the offence. Sorondinki noted that the offences contravened Sections 97(1), 298(c), and 221(a) of the Penal Code Laws of Kano State.
The defence counsel, Barr. Haruna Zakariyya, presented the convicts to attest successful their defence and pleaded for leniency.
