The Benue State House of Assembly has erstwhile again amended the instrumentality establishing the Benue State University, Makurdi, resolving that the instauration volition present beryllium known arsenic Father Adasu University, Makurdi.

Leading the debate, the Majority Leader, Saater Tiseer (APC/Mbagwa), argued that the antecedently approved name, Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, was excessively agelong and needed shortening.
The Speaker, Alfred Emberga, who presided implicit the sitting, directed the Clerk of the House, Dr Bem Mela, to work the amended measure for the 3rd time. Emberga thereafter declared it passed.
Alongside the renaming of the university, the Assembly besides passed bills amending the laws establishing the College of Education, Katsina-Ala and the College of Education, Oju, upgrading them into degree-awarding institutions.
Originally established arsenic Benue State University, Makurdi, the instauration was archetypal renamed successful December 2024 to Rev. Fr Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, aft Governor Hyacinth Alia announced the alteration during the school’s combined convocation.
At the time, Alia, who is the university’s visitor, explained that the determination was to honour the precocious Rev. Fr Moses Orshio Adasu, the 2nd civilian politician of Benue State and laminitis of the university.
“As a mode of honouring the laminitis of this institution, our medication has sent an enforcement measure to the authorities assembly for this assemblage to beryllium named aft the founder, Rev Fr Moses Adasu,” the politician said.
