OMG!! Reckless Police Officer K*lls 25-yr-old Man » Naijaloaded

A 25-year-old man, Moses Adam, has passed after been hit by a ‘stray b*llet’ fired by a police officer in Benin City, Edo State.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Friday, September 17, when the deceased, said to be the only son of his parents, arrived Benin from Lagos to attend his sister’s wedding slated for Saturday.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Kontongs Bello, in a statement said Adam was in a bus when he was hit by a stray b*llet fired by an officer who was trying to arrest a m*rder suspect, Ebuka Nwaechie.

“He was rushed to the Edo Specialist Hospital where he gave up the ghost. The erring officer has been arrested and will go through administrative trial that will determine his culpability,” he said.

Police said Nwaechie was allegedly involved in the alleged m*rder of one Bright Orikose on December 24, 2020. However, Esther, one of Adam’s elder sisters, disagreed with the account. She lamented the attempt by the police to twist the narrative.

“My brother was not k*lled by a stray bullet as the police claimed. He was aimed at in the second car which Ebuka was not even inside. While treating my brother, the doctor told us that he was hit by a close range bullet and that he lost so much blood before his d*ath,” she said.

According to a report by Foundation For Investigative Journalism (FIJ), the deceased was driving with his friend, Kelvin Uwumunse, when “some police detectives on mufti violently waylaid their cars”

The report said Adam and his friends were unsure of the identity of the people contending the road with them, so they tried to make a detour, but g*nshots were fired at them, one of the sh*ts hit Adam in his thigh.

It was gathered that the police afterwards arrested and detained three of Adam’s friends. They also reportedly failed to document the sh*oting at the station.

“It was after we got to the hospital that the police believed and gave us N120,000 for the treatment,” the family lawyer told FIJ.

Stop Organizing Prayers Inside Forest – Police Warn Christians » Naijaloaded

The Ogun state police command has warned members of the public to desist from holding prayer sessions in the forest so as to avoid being kidnapped.

The command expressed concern that, despite series of warnings and security tips, some members of the public still organise prayer sessions in the forest.

This, it was said, had made them easy preys for kidnappers hibernating in those forests.

According to a statement by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the command said the warning was important even though it recognizes individual’s right to freedom of religion.

It said,

“It is worthy of note that the present security situation in the country does not favor organizing prayer sessions in isolated places,”

He stated.

The police spokesman said that the command was working assiduously to get rid of criminal elements who have taken kidnapping as a business.

Pending when they will be satisfactorily eliminated, Oyeyemi urged the general public to “desist from creating opportunities for them to operate.”

He charged that security should be seen as everybody’s business, and as such, people should play their part in securing themselves and their property; stressing that “after all, the scripture even enjoined us to watch and pray.”

He emphasised that,

“If there is any compelling reason to embark on such prayer sessions, the organizers should report to the nearest police station for advice and possible security patrol of the area.”

Do Not Attend Vigils To Avoid Being Kidnapped

Police in Ogun on Sunday warned the public against organising prayer sessions at night, especially in forest area, to avoid being victims of kidnappers.

Police spokesman in Ogun, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, gave the warning in a statement made available to newsmen, in Ota, Ogun State.

Oyeyemi noted that the Ogun State Police Command had observed with great concern that, despite the series of warnings and security tips from the Command, some members of public are still in the habit of organising prayer sessions in the forest, thereby making themselves easy prey for kidnappers.

“However, inasmuch as the Command is not oblivious of right to freedom of religion, it is worthy of note that the present security situation in the country does not favorably dispose anyone to organising prayer sessions in isolated places,” the PPRO said.

He appealed to the public to refrain from creating opportunities for kidnappers to operate, as the Command was working assiduously to get rid of criminals who have made kidnapping a business.

Oyeyemi explained that security should be seen as everybody’s business and “we should all play our part in securing ourselves and our property,” adding that “after all, the scriptures even enjoined us to watch and pray.”

“However, if there is any compelling reason to embark on such prayer sessions, the organisers should report to the nearest Police station for advice and possible security patrol of the area,” he added.
