Nnamdi Kanu Sues Kenya Over Extradition To Nigeria » Naijaloaded

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has sued Kenya over his extradition to Nigeria.

The pro-Biafra activist’s brother, Kingsley Kanunta, sued on his behalf, according to court papers obtained by our correspondent

In his petition presented by Luchiri and Company Advocates, Kanu argued that his arrest in Kenya and subsequent extradition to Nigeria in June were unconstitutional.

Those named as respondents are Kenya’s Interior CS, Director of Immigration, Director of Criminal Investigations, OCPD Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, and the Attorney General.

Nigerian officials on June 29 claimed Kanu was brought back to face trial after he jumped bail and went on the run in 2017.

The petition revealed that Kanu was in Kenya to seek medical attention for a heart challenge and for “Indigenous People of Biafra-related work”.

It further revealed that the agitator arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in May from Kigali, Rwanda, on an East African tourist visa.

It further said that Kanu went to the airport on June 19 to pick someone but never returned to his residence, Purple Haze Apartments on Kitale Lane.

“The subject is believed to have been apprehended at the airport on June 19, 2021, and unlawfully detained for several days after which he was illegally and stealthily extradited to Nigeria without his British passport in utter-non-compliance with laid down processes of laws in Kenya,” the petition added.

While faulting Kanu’s extradition to Nigeria, the petition said, “The subject (Kanu) is a British citizen resident in the United Kingdom.

“He formerly held Nigerian citizenship but renounced it in 2015. Consequently, his Nigerian passport was taken away from him by Nigerian authorities.”

It argued that Kanu’s extradition from Nairobi to Abuja in June violated the Extradition (Contiguous and Foreign Countries) Act Chapter 76 of the laws of Kenya.

Kanu, in the petition, asked the court to declare his extradition “a violation of the fundamental rights and freedoms to equal protection of the law, human dignity, freedom and security, freedom of movement, fair administrative action, access to justice, the right to be represented in court and a fair hearing as guaranteed in the Constitution of Kenya”.

He also sought an order for “exemplary and punitive damages” against the respondents “on account of their gross violation of the subject’s fundamental freedoms and rights as enumerated in the petition”.

He further requested a declaration that “detaining the subject without justification and without informing him of the reasons for the detention, holding him incommunicado in deplorable and inhumane conditions” was a violation of rights protected by the Constitution.

The court was also asked:-

“to issue an order compelling the respondents to furnish him with the designations and ranks of state officers, public officers, police officers, agencies and departments, institutions and organs of government involved in his extradition.”

UPDATE! Nnamdi Kanu, Why Tuesday Sit-At-Home Order Was Declared

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has said its September 14 sit-at-home order is in honour of victims of the military raid in Afaraukwu, the home town of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

On September 14, 2017, military operatives had invaded Afaraukwu in Abia State in an attempt to arrest Kanu.

During the raid, about 28 people were said to have been killed by soldiers.

However, IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, said the Tuesday sit-at-home is sacrosanct across the Southeast.

According to Powerful: “We the global movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) wish to remind all Biafrans, friends of Biafra and lovers of Biafra freedom across the globe that the sit-at-home order issued by the IPOB leadership to be observed tomorrow, Tuesday, September 14, 2021, is sacrosanct.

“The peaceful protest is for the remembrance of the victims of the genocidal invasion of our Leader’s compound at Afaraukwu Ibeku Umuahia on September 14 2017. No fewer than 28 innocent Biafrans were killed that day by the Nigeria Army during the raid.

“We advise all Biafrans, both men and women, to stay indoors tomorrow as a mark of honour to these fallen heroes and heroines. We must not fail to remember the supreme sacrifices of these great freedom seekers. Nothing done to honour them should be considered too much for they have watered the tree of Biafra freedom with their blood.

“Our Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has also made a lot of sacrifices for the restoration of Biafra. So, all of us must be prepared to play our roles to accomplish this great task. Biafra independence is a mandate that we must live to accomplish.”

Powerful maintained that the alleged killings of Biafra agitators would not deter IPOB from its agitation for secession.

“We won’t be deterred by the killings of Biafra agitators by Nigeria compromised security agencies who cannot confront Fulani bandits and herdsmen rampaging the country. They derive pleasure in killing and torturing innocent people agitating for their freedom while fleeing from real terrorists,” he said.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu Sues Nigerian Government For N5billion Over Health Issues » Naijaloaded

There was tension in Umuahia, the Abia State capital on Tuesday as Aloy Ejimakor, lawyer to the detained leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, heads to court over the latter’s health issues.

It was gathered that access roads to the court were blocked by truckloads of the military, police, and other security agencies, which created fear in road users in Umuahia.

Ejimakor, in an application, Nnamdi Kanu Vs Federal Government of Nigeria and seven others, brought an ex parte order asking the court to, among other things, make an interim order of release of Kanu to attend to his health in any medical facility of his choice in Nigeria, pending the hearing of the motion.

The lawyer also asked for the substitution service on the motion on notice of third and fourth respondents.

However, the high court presided over by Justice K. C. J. Okereke refused the application and asked the lawyer to put the respondents on notice.

He granted the application for substituted service on third, fifth, and seventh respondents and adjourned till September 21 for a hearing of the motion on notice.

Nnamdi Kanu Is Cursed, Ex-IPOB Deputy Leader Says » Naijaloaded

Former Deputy Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Uche Mefor, has claimed that the group’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu is cursed.

Mefor said both Kanu and IPOB were cursed due to the evil allegedly being perpetrated by them across the Southeast.

In a post on his Facebook page, the former Biafra agitator claimed that the land of the Southeast abhors the evils and injustice perpetrated by Kanu and IPOB.

Mefor, in the post titled:-

“IPOB Nnamdi Kanu remain cursed-Nemesis/Karma remain in full gear until the confessions and the self-destructive expositions are complete”, said the infighting within IPOB was a testament to the curse on them.

According to Mefor:-

“In the fullness of time, humanity shall recognise and appreciate this fact that treachery does not pay nor does it do anybody or any group any good, IPOB NNAMDI KANU is cursed beyond redemption.

“The spirit of the land of our ancestors, the land of Biafra abhors injustice, it frowns at the abomination of crimes against humanity which go to the very heart of spilling of the blood and beheading of Biafrans by Biafrans on Biafran soil and the desecration of our heritage.

“The legacy of lies, of deception and of blackmail which we proudly fought against and which they have continued remains her waterloo.

These IPOB NNAMDI KANU shall continue with the CONFESSION; they shall continue to speak in confusing, hostile languages among themselves until they completely expose their evils and atrocities by themselves and you know what?

They have no control over it because cursed people do not influence what befalls or happens to them.

“The desperate, ineffective, damage-control manoeuvres shall all the more continue to expose the hypocrisy therein.

They shall continue to lie from one level to the other and further continue to defend those same lies with other bundle of lies and deception until they destroy themselves by themselves and blame no other themselves.”
