Gbajabiamila Labels IPOB, Yoruba Nation Agitators As Terrorist Groups » Naijaloaded

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila claims that separationist activists are not different from the Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorist groups.

Nnamdi Kanu-led Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) advocates the secession of the Igbos in the South-East zone, while Sunday Igboho is leading the agitation for the Yoruba nation in the South-West zone.

In his remarks at Wednesday’s plenary of the Green Chamber, Gbajabiamila alleged that miscreants in Southern Nigeria masquerading as separatists and activists have emerged to wreak havoc.

According to him, IPOB and Yoruba Nation agitators will take the country down the path of destruction if they are “given time and space” like Boko Haram and ISWAP.

“Thus far, we have rightly focused our national security concerns on the machinations of extremist insurgents who seek to remake our world in the image of their discredited theocracy and bandits who maraud and terrorise whole regions for profit,” the speaker said.

“We must now add to these concerns an emerging threat that presents the same clear and present danger. In the south of Nigeria, east and west, miscreants and criminals masquerading as separationist activists have emerged to wreak havoc, take lives and commit economic sabotage against fellow Nigerians and against the state.

“These people, in their inclination for devastating violence against fellow citizens, their appetite for the destruction of private property, their disruption of academic activities, commerce, and industry, their propensity for defiling institutions of the state, society and community, their refusal to engage in debate, or to consider the possibility of dissenting opinions and alternative viewpoints, are no different from Boko Haram and ISWAP. Given space and time, they will take our nation down the same path of destruction.

Femi Gbajabiamila added that the nation will not be “reactionary in our approach” to allow criminal elements to destroy the country.

See What IPOB Did To Students Writing WAEC In Exam Hall » Naijaloaded

Students of Comprehensive Secondary School Nkume Njaba in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State were on Monday chased of the examination hall by suspected Indigenous Peoples of Nigeria (IPOB) operatives.

The students and staff were pursued by enforcers of the Sit-at-home order while they were about to write the West African Examination Council (WAEC) English Language Examination.

The Nation learnt a group of men came into the school around 8.30 to chase the students, staff and invigilators and burnt down all the motorcycles parked in the premises.

Narrating her experience, a student, who gave her name as Ngozi, said: “Unknown gunmen came into the hall to ask us to stop our exams and chased us out. They also burnt bikes.”

Residents of Imo State on Monday made a volte-face and carried out their usual daily business activities.

While few vehicles were seen on the roads, some businesses, fast-food centres, artisans, street/road side traders, super markets and mobile food vendors operated freely better than last Monday when streets and roads were deserted.

Although businesses at the major markets were not at its peak, a reasonable percentage of buying and selling went on in virtually all the local government areas of the state just as Okada riders ferried passengers to their various destinations unhindered.

In Owerri, the state capital, Wetheral, Douglas, Tetlow, Onitsha, Port Harcourt, Okigwe, Mbaise, Aba and Orlu roads, vehicles were seen plying the roads even as intra and inter-city bus services were available for commuters.

However, some fear stricken sensitive institutions such as banks public and private schools, apprehensive of possible invasion by hoodlums and miscreants, remained closed for customers, students and pupils.

The hospitality industry heaved a sigh of relief with guests seen trooping into hotels

A resident and a businessman, Nick Iwuoha advised the security agencies to show more capacity of protecting the people during the enforced order.

“If our security agencies have shown the slightest sign that they are capable of protecting the people, many citizens will defy these sit-at-home orders.

“It is becoming rampant and frivolous. I trust the Igbo man, just a matter of time, it will lose steam and public sympathy and the people will defy it. In the meantime, let the security agencies shown some capacity,” he said

Obiano ordered banks, traders and transporters to commence complete and uninterrupted economic activities from Monday.

The governor stated that his decision followed discussions with security agents and relevant stakeholders in the state.

His directive was contained in a statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment Don Adinuba, issued on Saturday.

“The markets should open, if they do not open, I would sack the leadership of the market and shut the market.

“Invisible voice says ‘sit at home?’ And, you just comply and loose money. You don’t know who says sit-at-home, you just loose money,” the governor said while addressing the business leaders.

He also urged them to help the government to solve the menace of continuous sit-at-home compliance.

Uzodinma in an interview on Channels Television, said that Imo residents were excited about Buhari’s visit and came all out to welcome him.

He also stated that he and other Igbo leaders will be supporting the president, his administration and his policies, because he has shown sufficient interest in terms of pragmatic approach in listening and being sensitive to the yearnings of Imolites and Igbo people in general.

Uzodinma said:-

“What is important to me is that Mr President visited and you could see the excitement of the entire Igbo nation. The leadership received Mr President, commended Mr President, pledged to support Mr President’s government and policies.

“When we say this, we mean it. We meant every inch of the word — that we are supporting the president; we are supporting his administration, and we are supporting his policies, because Mr President has shown sufficient interest in terms of pragmatic approach in listening and being sensitive to the yearnings of Imolites and Igbo people in general.

“We meant it. Our people came. You could see that with the sit-at-home order, which is only a social media sit-at-home order. The sit-at-home order is not in Imo state, because we never issued any sit-at-home order.

We Won’t Allow You Disrupt Anambra Poll

The Federal Government has said it would not allow any separatist group to disrupt the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra state.

National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (Rtd) gave the warning at a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, (ICCES) in Abuja, on Thursday.

Mugono spoke against the backdrop of some of the recent activities of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) in the Southeast.

In May this year, unidentified hoodlums carried out series of attacks on government facilities, including setting ablaze the headquarters of INEC in Anambra.

Though the police accused members of IPOB of being responsible for the attacks, the group vehemently denied such allegation.

There are also fears that the separatist group may call on residents of the state to boycott the November 6 governorship election.

But Mungono, represented by Sanusi Galadima, warned that government would not tolerate any group or persons to disrupt the poll.

He said:-

“With the prevalence of security threats occasioned by different dissident separatist groups in the Southern region of the country, who are bent on scuttling efforts of government in achieving national cohesion and undermining the democratic processes in the country, the Federal Government of Nigeria will not tolerate any group or persons planning to impede smooth conduct of elections.

“While acknowledging the constitutional rights of citizens to freely express their legitimate grievances within the ambits of the law, it is also important to state that the Federal government will not abdicate its constitutional responsibility of securing lives and property as well as a secure environment for citizens to pursue their legitimate means of livelihood”, he stated.

The NSA, therefore, assured of robust security deployments to countering any threats and ensuring peaceful conduct of the elections.

In his welcome address during the meeting, Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, said the commission had made arrangements to replace materials that were lost during the attack on its office in Akwa.

He said plans were also underway to rebuild the physical facilities which, he said would be completed before the election.
