Why Is Nobody Talking About What Davido Did On “Lakiriboto”?

All thanks to Davido, Liya has one mild hit potential on her EP, “Alari.”

Oh, wait, it’s all thanks to OBO that she is an artist worth talking about, in fact. But today I’m not here to talk about DMW’s only girl. Neither am I here to talk about her recently released EP that has all but gone into oblivion.

Instead, this is about how Davido is not getting enough credit for the things he’s been doing as of late.

Davido‘s album did not live up to the hype, granted. But hey, the poor guy put in a lot of effort to get “A Better Time” done, and it was a decent effort, if we’re not going over-the-board. People say it’s disappointing, fans say it’s okay, I honestly don’t care.

What I care about however is what Davido has been doing with guest features.

For the most part of 2020, he was all over the place, giving out guest verses to everyone, from the relatively known Ajebo Hustlers to the promising Cheque, to the South African sensation, Focalistic, and even offshore to people like the deceased Pop Smoke.

And, while you can say there’s nothing special about his album or his own songs, what you can’t say is that he has not delivered when it comes to collaborations. Davido has simply done more than anyone else, on that front.

2021 is almost over and Davido hasn’t stopped delivering. He’s not gearing for a new album and he’s not on the Billboard Hot 100. But he’s still everywhere he can be, making other artists’ songs better.

One of his recent stellar performances will be what he did for his artist, Liya, just about a month ago. On the song “Lakiriboto,” which was released as a part of Liya‘s debut EP, “Alari,” Davido stole the show by bringing back a vibe that only he is known for.

The song was perfect for Davido. The instrumental was phenomenal, as afro as Davido wants it, and it has that amapiano vibe that Davido‘s been on lately too. The combination makes it a perfect one for the “Heaven” singer.

Liya played her part, wove in a catchy hook, leaving Davido with the work of finishing up the song. Without Davido, the song would have been okay. But after hearing it with the boss on, I don’t think anyone even wants to hear the version he’s not on. And it’s not just because of the contagious ad libs.

Davido had a short verse on the song. And since the song is kinda fast-paced, he had to just enter the song, drop what he has to drop, and get out before it gets cold. That’s exactly what he did.

The verse he did is reminiscent of the old Davido. Forget what you heard, but this is one of the few times when Davido screaming at the top of his voice didn’t spoil the song.

Davido’s 2016 “Son of Mercy” Is An Underrated EP With A Classic Touch

Even after the seemingly underwhelming release of “A Better Time” last year, Davido still maintains his spot as one of the biggest and best artists in Africa currently.

It’s not magic, it’s not hype, it’s just facts. Davido is occupying a spot that will take anybody at least ten years to take from him. He’s been here for a while, and best believe he’s gonna be here for a couple more summers.

Davido makes hits. He’s what you might call a serial hitmaker. He does it effortlessly, too. And it don’t cost him anything to put out a banger. But when it comes to making projects, Davido is not so great at that.

Well, that is a fundamental flaw that so many artists struggle with. As a result, though, Davido has been under constant fire, as fans expect him to put out something classic, something that befits his status. Rightly so. But he hasn’t delivered, unfortunately.

But still, Davido always made an effort. He’s not lazy. He works hard, and tries to put out stuff and do memorable things. You gotta give him that one. While his many efforts have not produced him a classic album, he’s made some very good stuff.

One of such stuff is his 2016 EP, “Son of Mercy.” Until this day, some fans still overlook this project as though it’s not part of Davido‘s discography.

The rollout was a disaster, granted. But that EP wasn’t bad. It was good. It is a gem that fans of OBO and Davido himself should really be proud of.

The 5-track EP was the mark of Davido‘s first voyage into the international market. That voyage was unsuccessful, but the music that came from that Era was impeccable. According to Davido, he was forced to make music he didn’t like.

Son of Mercy” EP had the hit song “Gbagbe Oshi” and one of the finest trap flows we’ve ever heard, “Coolest Kid in Africa” featuring Nasty C.

There are also songs like “How Long” with Tinashe, and “Maga 2 Mugu” with Simi, that just makes the EP flawless. Unfortunately, that went the kind of sound the industry wanted at that time and the EP went under the radar.

But whenever I remember that EP, I get the reassurance that Davido is a star and he’s gonna come out of this phase strong and put out some colourful content.

Son of Mercy” remains one of the best EP’s we’ve ever heard in Nigeria, and anyone that understands music will know that.

[Music] Davido & Focalistic – Champion Sound

DMW boss Davido turns up with another brand new mind-blowing track titled “Champion Sound” featuring Focalistic.

Recall their previous collaboration on the track named “Ke Star” which received million streams across platforms. However, Champion Sound is here to get you entertained.

OVERTAKEN!! Made In Lagos Is Now Bigger Than “Twice As Tall” And “A Better Time” Combine – DO YOU AGREE?

Wizkid’s “Made In Lagos” album has been making rounds in the global world of music getting massive streams

Just last year when the project was released after Burna Boy’s Grammy award-winning album”Twice As Tall” which happens to be the best project of 2020.

It’s now clear to us that MIL has been organically rising above so many albums as the chart can attest.

Maybe Tems or not, the album with no doubt has been a penetration to the most acknowledgeable award, the Grammy itself.

As at this moment, MIL remains the only album enjoying relevancy as “A Better Time” by Davido is nowhere to be found, even “Twice As Tall” is struggling to compete with Wizkid’s “Made In Lagos”.

The turnaround is so intense, no one ever thought Wizkid would pop to this level with the album.

Recall that MIL got so many critics after release, logically listeners who criticize the project have found it as a nonstop playlist. It’s safe to say it’s a ‘no bad song’ album.

Nigerian-British Rapper Tion Wayne Anticipate New Hit With Davido

Nigerian-British rapper, Tion Wayne, has hinted to his fans that he has a collaboration with DMW frontline act, Davido

Nigerian-British rapper, Dennis Junior Odunwo, popularly known as Tion Wayne, has hinted to his fans that he has a collaboration with DMW frontline act Davido.

The 28-year old North London-based rapper, songwriter, and DJ will drop his new album titled Green With Envy on September 17th, 2021, and Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido might be on it.

The rapper, who shared a photo of himself and Davido in what seemed to be a video set, made the announcement via his Instagram.

He wrote:

T Wizzy X OBO

DO YOU AGREE? The Yorubas (Wizkid) Are The Life Wire Of Nigeria Music Industry (See This)

Arguably, without the yoruba, the Nigerian music industry would have been a thing of the past.

I’m not being tribalistic here because I’m not a Yoruba person. Only stating the obvious facts.

Wizkid for instance, the young man has promoted the image of the music industry and that of the country at large, more than any president, in the history of Nigeria. It’s a verifiable fact. Some times I feel we don’t deserve that young man Big Wiz.

Davido is also trying but too much controversies spoiled his game. From one babe mama drama to another.

Olamide? Bado dey try sha but still running local sh*t just like his bestie Phyno from the East. Two great local rappers.

Burnaboy? Oluwa Burna is my personal person and brother but dude ain’t doing no sh*t to project the industry globally. But I think he’s a change person now. And if you trace his root, he has a link to the Yoruba people.

So you see,
